Belgian Internet hub BNIX connects with Luxembourg counterpart for optimized

Internet node BNIX is going to interconnect with LU-CIX. This will improve the connection between Belgium and Luxembourg and allow providers to optimize data flows between the two countries.

Luxembourg will soon be a little closer. Digitally, anyway, because BNIX is teaming up with its Luxembourg counterpart LU-CIX. BNIX and LU-CIX are nationwide Internet hubs. They are part of the backbone of the Internet and handle a lot of traffic from local content and Internet providers. By providing a direct connection between BNIX’s network and LU-CIX’s, latency goes down. Content hosted in a data center in Luxembourg can thus be accessed faster through a provider using BNIX.

BNIX, managed by Belnet, claims it will also improve the safety of cross-border traffic. The two parties initially signed a cooperation agreement. They are convinced that the local and regional Internet will improve with the cooperation. After all, traffic will no longer have to pass through other international hubs.

“This geographical extension creates more opportunities for the participants connected to the BNIX platform,” says Stefan Gulinck, Network Architect at Belnet. “In these times, we see this collaboration as a logical step. Our organizations share a common philosophy and values such as neutrality, openness, reliability and Internet security,” adds Claude Demuth, president of LU-CIX.
