Belgium is rapidly emerging as a strategic alternative to Europe’s congested Tier 1 hubs (Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam and Paris). According to the market report State of the Belgian Data Centers (2024), the market is projected to attract €1.4 billion in colocation data center investments between 2025 and 2029. Based on available data, the market is projected to reach 261 MW by 2029, reflecting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.5%.

Since its foundation in 2022, trade association Belgium Digital Infrastructure Association (BDIA) has grown into one of the leading associations in the Belgian digital infrastructure industry. With over 70+ partners, multiple networking events and two editions of the LevelX Conference in Brussels, the BDIA grows simultaneously with the Belgian data center market.

To further support the growth of the BDIA, David Louis (Managing Director Digital Realty) and Hans Witdouck (Managing Director Eurofiber Belgium) will join the board of the association. With their expertise, the BDIA will enter the next phase of expanding its activities in the industry.

Carole Santens, Managing Director of the Belgian Digital Infrastructure Association (BDIA) addresses: “With Hans and David joining the board, we bring not only years of experience into the BDIA, but also a strong network and strategic insight. Their commitment is an important step in further anchoring our sector within the social and policy debate.”

David Louis, managing director Digital Realty Belgium, adds: “Data centers are an invisible yet indispensable part of our daily lives. In my role on the board, I am committed to raising broader awareness of this fact. I bring with me the international experience of Digital Realty to help foster greater knowledge sharing, awareness, and collaboration here in Belgium. I am convinced that by working more closely together and promoting the positive story of our sector, we can build a strong and future-oriented digital infrastructure.”

Hans Witdouck, managing director Eurofiber Belgium says: “What unites us within BDIA is digital infrastructure, which is now more essential and driving than ever in addressing today’s economic and social challenges. Yet, what we do is often quite literally invisible. Making this hidden gem visible, appreciated, and encouraging stakeholders to actively engage in tackling the challenges we face together as a sector — that’s what BDIA is all about, and that’s something I am eager to support wholeheartedly.”

David Louis and Hans Witdouck are joining the current board, which further consists of Friso Haringsma (Datacenter United), Barro Luitjes (Kevlinx), and Stijn Grove (Dutch Data Center Association).
