BDIA publishes Belgian Digital Infrastructure Guide 2023

On Thursday, April 20th, the Belgium Digital Infrastructure Association (BDIA) publishes the second edition of the Belgium Digital Infrastructure Guide. This guide represents all members of the BDIA, highlighting data centers, cloud, fiber and suppliers; together they form the fundament of the Belgium digital economy.

Digital Infrastructure

Belgium is paving the way for digital infrastructure development, providing the foundation for the country’s growing digital economy. With an extensive network of fiber-optic cables, state-of-the-art data centers, mobile networks, and other critical elements, Belgium has become a vital hub for digital connectivity throughout the European Union. Digital infrastructure is the backbone of Belgium’s economy, providing third-party connectivity, data center storage, and cloud services, representing a relentless growing part of the country’s GDP. As a result, businesses in Belgium can operate in compliance with today’s digital standards, becoming smarter, more efficient, and more effective.

Sustainability

Belgium is committed to be as sustainable as possible. The commitment to sustainability has driven a new approach towards managing the exponential growth of data usage, robotics, 5G, autonomous driving, Virtual and Augmented Reality, the Internet-of-Things, and Artificial Intelligence. The country’s digital infrastructure actively seeks to reduce its carbon footprint and increase energy efficiency by implementing sustainable practices, such as the use of renewable energy sources to power data centers, deploying more energy-efficient network equipment, reducing water usage, implementing efficient and intelligent power grids, and recycling electronic waste. This week the Belgian Digital Infrastructure Association announced that they joined the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact. This European initiative aims to make European data centers climate-neutral by 2030. By joining this initiative, BDIA aims to contribute to the realization and transparency of climate-neutral data centers in Belgium and to contribute to the European climate goals.

With a thriving digital infrastructure and a commitment to innovation and sustainability, Belgium will continue to play a crucial role in shaping the digital landscape across Europe. The publication of the Belgian Digital Infrastructure Guide is a helpful reference book for the country and the industry, providing a valuable tool for understanding and navigating the digital landscape.
