Penta Infra acquires brand new Brussels Nexus data center

The newly opened data center at the Researchpark in Zellik has a new owner. Penta Infra is thus buying one of the most sustainable data centers in the country.

Penta Infra and its main investor Photon Capital are taking over the infrastructure from construction company Ghelamco. As a result, the colocation player is now active in eleven cities in five countries.

‘Brussels is at the heart of both Europe and the data intensive FLAP hubs (Frankfurt-London-Amsterdam-Paris, nvdr), and this beautifully designed data center is the perfect flexible platform for digital growth,’ says Bob Sprengers, CEO of Penta Infra ‘The exceptional sustainability features make the data center an excellent addition to our 100% green energy-powered portfolio.’

An acquisition amount is not mentioned, but it involves the Nexus data center campus opened last month at the Green Energy Park in Zellik. The data center has 7.2 megawatts of capacity based on 12.5 MVA of green power supply and an area of ten thousand square meters.

In addition, the data center makes full use of renewable energy, rainwater recovery, solar panels and full reuse of heat via a thermal smart grid. Thereby, the heat generated by the equipment is piped away to nearby buildings that can use it for their heating.
Today, the VUB and UZ Brussel are already customers in the data center. The new Flemish supercomputer that will be located at the VUB will also have a place in the data center.
