Luminus will supply Google, for its operations in Belgium, with green energy from four newly built wind farm projects, representing a total capacity of 38.6 MW. The agreement includes the purchase and delivery of decarbonized electricity over a 20-year period, with an estimated total production of more than 1800 GWh. This is the third CPPA (Corporate Power Purchase Agreement) signed between the two companies in Belgium. Electricity delivery will begin when the projects are operational, no later than 2027.
Dedicated Wind Projects
With this CPPA, the two companies take another step forward in the energy transition. Luminus will provide Google with carbon-free energy from fourteen new wind turbines spread across four new parks, along with the corresponding guarantees of origin.
Two of these four wind farms will be co-developed in partnership—one with Demainvest and the other with Activent Wallonie, which will support the investment. Luminus is responsible for the construction and operation of the projects.
Luminus estimates that this CPPA will avoid nearly 13,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year, or more than 260,000 tonnes over the duration of the contract—equivalent to the annual gas and electricity consumption emissions of over 69 000 households. The commissioning of the projects is expected to take place between 2025 and 2027.
Together, Let’s Make a Difference!
Grégoire Dallemagne, CEO of Luminus: “We are proud to support Google in its decarbonization strategy. Thanks to our three CPPAs, no fewer than 31 Luminus wind turbines, with a total installed capacity of 87.6 MW, will supply Google with green and decarbonized energy over the long term. This renewed partnership with Google confirms our shared commitment to building a CO₂-neutral energy future together.”
“Google’s data centres are among the most energy-efficient in the world and we’re focused on responsibly growing our AI infrastructure,” said Maud Texier, Director of EMEA Data Center Energy. “Our ambition to run on carbon-free by 2030 requires close collaboration with major energy companies, in every grid that we operate, like Luminus, who are jointly committed to long-term sustainable energy goals and to enhance energy stability and contribute to the clean energy transition in Belgium.”
On the Road to Climate Neutrality
This agreement contributes to long-term CO₂ emission reductions and fully aligns with the decarbonization goals pursued by both companies. The development of locally produced wind energy for industrial players helps increase their competitiveness while drastically reducing their CO₂ emissions.
