KevlinX starts building a colocation data center in Brussels

KevlinX begins construction of a colocation data center in Neder-Over-Heembeek. The project will be on a 2.5-hectare plot of land on the Galilei site of citydev.brussels.

After an initial contact with citydev.brussels in 2017, data center specialist KevlinX obtained a suitable 2.5-hectare plot of land to build a colocation data center on. This is the last available plot on the Galilei site in Neder-Over-Heembeek.

Indeed, the Brussels market offers many advantages, according to KevlinX. “The region has a finely meshed fiber optic network. You can find a lot of international telecom companies, large multinationals, NATO and the European institutions. The ideal place, therefore, for a data center.”

The data center market in the Brussels Region and the Vlaamse Rand is far from saturated, according to the manufacturer. Today, Belgian data centers account for some 30 megawatts (not counting existing telecom operators, such as the Proximus data center in Evere). So compared to capacity in other European cities, such as London (1,038 MW), Frankfurt (839 MW), Amsterdam (569 MW) and Paris (475 MW), there is still strong growth potential.
