Your trust and the protection of your data are top priorities for the Belgian Digital Infrastructure Association (BDIA). We have always taken steps to protect your personal data and will continue to do so.

With the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we have made some adjustments to our privacy statement. In it, you can read what data we use and how we store, protect, and process this data.

This privacy policy applies to our website www.bdia.be (the Website) and the services (Services) we offer. Additionally, the GDPR gives you several rights to better protect and manage your personal data yourself.

Under 16 years old
If you are under 16, you need permission from your parents or legal guardian to use our Website and Services.

Personal data
To offer our Website and Services, we process personal data. Personal data is information by which you can be identified as an individual. This definition aligns with the GDPR.

Your consent
We may store your data at various points, such as when you visit our Website, fill out a form, use our Services, or contact us.

We are allowed to process your data because we ask for your consent through this privacy policy or because we are legally entitled to do so.

We will not process your data without your consent unless it is necessary for executing an agreement or due to a legal obligation.

What data do we collect?
To use our Website and Services, we may collect the following data from you:

  • Name

  • Company name

  • Phone number

  • Email address

  • IP address

Additionally, we collect anonymized data about the use of our Website, such as:

  • The name of the browser you use

  • The operating system you use

  • The service provider you access the internet with

Social media
If you use social media features on our site, the social media provider may send us information (according to their policy). This might include your name, profile picture, gender, friends list, and other information you’ve shared. Don’t want this? Then adjust your privacy settings on your social media account.

If you like an article, it may appear on your social media account when logged in. When you visit a page that uses social media plugins, your browser sends certain information to the provider of your social media account. We have no control over this data exchange.

Market research
We may ask you to participate in market research. We will use your data for this research. The data is used anonymously for BDIA’s statistical purposes. You can stop the survey at any time. Your answers will not be shared with third parties or made public, and they won’t be linked to your email address.

BDIA Newsletter
BDIA offers newsletters to keep you updated about offers, discounts, and other news. To ensure your consent, we use the double opt-in system. This means you confirm your subscription via a verification email. Every newsletter will include an option to unsubscribe. We use your data only for the above purposes or closely related ones—your data will never be used unexpectedly.

Publications
BDIA regularly publishes reports, whitepapers, and factsheets. To download them, we ask for your email address to send you the publication. This ensures easy access. We also ask for your company name, which BDIA uses to improve its Services. Your data will not be kept for more than 6 months and will only be used for these purposes.

Security
We do everything we can to protect your personal data from loss, destruction, misuse, alteration, or unauthorized access. We ensure that only authorized people have access to your data. We do this through:

  • Encryption of digital files containing personal data

  • Secured network connections with Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or similar technology

  • Access limited to authorized personnel only

  • Two-step verification for data access

Retention period
We won’t keep your personal data longer than necessary for the described purposes. We never retain it for more than 5 years. After that, your data will be completely deleted.

Who do we share your personal data with?
Processors
Sometimes, other parties receive your data from us. We have processing agreements with them to ensure they handle your data carefully and only use it to provide their service. These processors act according to our instructions and not for their own purposes. For example, we might share data with services for events (like Eventbrite) or newsletters (like Mailchimp). They are considered processors under Relevant Legislation.

Transfer
We only process your data within the EU. We only transfer data outside the EU if the country offers adequate protection for your data.

Without your consent, we will never transfer your data to other countries or parties, except those mentioned above.
