Rittal emphasizes importance of physical IT security at Cybersec Europe

On May 21 and 22, Rittal, a global leader in enclosure technology and IT infrastructure, will be present at Cybersec Europe. While the trade fair primarily spotlights innovations in digital security, Rittal aims to raise awareness about the risks and importance of physical security. Visitors to Rittal’s booth can explore various solutions for server cooling, monitoring, and energy management.

Cybersec Europe is the premier event for innovations in artificial intelligence, data management, and cloud solutions. Digital IT security is a central theme throughout the fair. “Companies invest millions in digital security and implement initiatives to train employees in recognizing phishing attempts and other cyber threats. That’s commendable, but physical security is equally important,” says Koen Van Hende, Product Manager IT Infrastructure at Rittal. “It’s crucial not only to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data through digital channels but also to ensure that no one gains unauthorized physical access to the server racks housing this data. This can be achieved through monitoring, access control, and other security measures. Raising awareness about these solutions is essential so that employees understand the risks and the importance of physical security.”

Van Hende also notes that IT applications are increasingly finding their way into industrial environments, presenting additional challenges. Factors such as IP and IK ratings or the risk of impact damage, dust, corrosion, erosion, and extreme temperature fluctuations are often overlooked. “These aspects are well-known in the industrial sector and are considered essential requirements. In the IT sector, they are less familiar because IT solutions have traditionally been deployed in controlled environments like ‘white rooms.’ Therefore, it’s important to raise awareness and better align IT solutions with the specific demands of industrial environments.”

Direct Liquid Cooling

These challenges compel suppliers to continuously innovate and develop solutions that can withstand future cyber threats while promoting new technological advancements. For instance, due to the rise of AI, IT racks require increasingly higher cooling capacities. Rittal is therefore investing heavily in direct liquid cooling, integrating water cooling directly into server racks in data centers.

The Liquid Cooling Package (LCP) Rack CW/CWG from Rittal, to be showcased at Cybersec Europe, draws air from the rear sides of the server rack and blows the cooled air back to the front through the sides. The LCP achieves maximum energy savings through EC fan technology and IT-oriented control, with minimal air-side pressure loss and dynamic regulation of the chilled water flow rate.

Additionally, Rittal will demonstrate its high-end power distribution for IT racks at Cybersec Europe, featuring energy measurement and monitoring functions for each individual output socket, enabling precise monitoring and management of energy consumption. The range of Blue e+ IT cooling units is also optimally tailored to the requirements for energy-efficient cooling of IT racks. The Blue e+ technology ensures energy-efficient cooling of IT racks, with an IoT interface that enables communication with various systems and monitoring and energy management.
