Syntra West launches new training program “Data Center Technician” in collaboration with Datacenter United and the Belgian Digital Infrastructure Association (BDIA)

Due to the explosive growth in AI applications, cloud solutions, and the ever-increasing demand for data storage, the data center market in Belgium is growing at a record pace. To respond to this evolution, Syntra West, in close collaboration with Datacenter United and BDIA, is launching a new training program for data center technicians. The program is practice-oriented and has been developed with input from experienced data center experts to ensure that future technicians are optimally prepared for a career in the most crucial links of our digital economy.

Strong growth of data centers in Belgium
According to market analyses by Mordor Intelligence, Belgian data center capacity will increase from 207.1 MW in 2025 to 389.6 MW in 2030, representing an annual growth rate of 13.47%. Colocation revenue will grow from USD 190.6 million to USD 484.8 million over the same period, a CAGR of 20.52% (mordorintelligence.com).

According to the Belgian Digital Infrastructure Association (BDIA), the Belgian data center market will grow to 261 MW by 2029, representing an average annual growth rate of 20.5%. The total colocation space in Belgium currently amounts to approximately 118,000 m², with an IT load above 100 MW (BIDA.be). These figures underscore the growing demand for well-trained technicians to keep this infrastructure running.

What does a data center technician do?
A data center technician is responsible for the operational continuity of a data center. This ranges from monitoring and optimizing energy and cooling systems to quickly and efficiently resolving malfunctions, taking safety procedures into account.

Focus of the training
The training emphasizes the daily operation of a data center and ensuring uptime. Among other things, participants learn:

Operation and structure of a data center
Troubleshooting in energy and cooling systems
Monitoring and preventive maintenance• Safety procedures and access management
Collaborating in a 24/7 environment
With this training program, we are investing in the future of digital infrastructure in Belgium,“ says Friso Haringsma, CEO of Datacenter United and chairman of BDIA. ”We want to actively contribute to training technical talent so that the continuity and reliability of data centers is guaranteed.”
